January Planning Meeting

Here are the items of discussion covered at the Inner City Planning and Heritage Committee meeting on Tuesday, January 6th from 7:00PM to 8:30PM in the Board Room at the ICA Community Hall.

Details:


  1. Meeting with Homeowner/ Designer concerning 10th Avenue home project

    The committee received a presentation from the homeowner and designer of an upcoming home renovation project on 10th Avenue. Plans presented were well received and within all guidelines upon inspection from the committee.

  2. DP2025-07048 (880 9 Street SE)

    This application is for a change of use within the building to allow for healthcare services, in this circumstance a skincare and beauty services location. Plans were discussed and no objections were noted. Development Map Link: https://dmap.calgary.ca/?p=DP2025-07048

  3. SB2025-0448 (1614 16A Street SE) This is a subdivision application submitted as part of a separate development application on the lot. This would be to subdivide a property currently under plans to have an infill duplex built on it, separating the duplex into 2 different properties for sale. The committee offered conditional support contingent on the success of the infill construction.

  4. DP2025-02440 (1650 15 Street SE, Coven House) This application is for a new 2 story building including a residence and retail space. The committee has previously discussed this application and continues to hold concerns about the amount of parking offered compared to the retail ambitions of the design.   5. DP2025-06579 (1340 9th Avenue SE, Carson Block) This application is for the Carson Block and Blyth Hall, current home of the Dirty Duck and the Blue Store. This application will demolish Blyth Hall and preserve the Carson Block while erecting a 6 story apartment complex around the Carson Block. The committee discussed some objections to the presented design. A submission was put in raising concerns. Development Map Link: https://dmap.calgary.ca/?p=DP2025-06579

  6. Planning Chair replacement Our current Planning Chair is stepping down and a discussion was initiated over who would take up the role. Nominations were discussed and a final decision will be made at the next committee meeting.
