September Planning Meeting

Here are the items of discussion covered by the Inner City Planning and Heritage Committee over email correspondence to address planning applications for September.

  1. DP2026-04616 - 1940 9 Ave SE This application is for change-of-use zoning modification for the former bank building on the corner across from Colonel Walker School. The use of the building will be for Calgary Opera for various admin and performance preparation. Discussion was mostly in excitement to welcome Calgary Opera to the community and no concerns were raised with this use of the building.   2. DP 2026-04986 - 1211 9 Ave SE This application is for a change-of-use for the basement of the building at 1911 9th Avenue (currently home to the Potion Room and Genuine Design Luxury Consignment). The plans call for a general open venue space for events. No major concerns were noted and Committee decided no comment was warranted. Development Map link: https://dmap.calgary.ca/?p=DP2026-04986

  3. LOC 2022-0022 - Brewery Lands Members of the Committee and the ICA Board met with Matco to discuss concerns about the brewery project as outlined in a previous letter sent to Matco. Attending representatives were generally happy with answers provided by Matco and a new letter of support will be discussed for their upcoming re-zoning hearing.   4. Request for letter of support: Espy The owner of Espy, local clothing store on 9th Avenue, has sent in a package of information about a proposed expansion of the store. The committee has reviewed the provided information, noted no concerns, and will proceed on providing a letter of support to this local business.
