Details:
2501 Alyth Rd SE Re-designation from Industrial Heavy (I-H) to Industrial Edge (I-E)
The committee was presented the current plans to change the planning designation from Industrial Heavy to Industrial Edge for the Brass Foundry building (currently home to Workshop studios amongst other businesses). They were very clear that the building owner wants to continue to care for the heritage building and this change is in service of better matching the current occupants use of the building. No real impact to the building or the surrounding community is anticipated with this change. There was also discussion of better sidewalk integration with the community. LOC2025-0186 (Carson Block redevelopment Open House on February 17th)
The Committee discussed the open house event held on February 17th with O2 Planning for the proposed redevelopment of the Carson Block/Blythe Hall properties (Where the Dirty Duck and Blue Store are respectively). General thoughts were still very critical of the proposed design. There was also uncertainty about if this permit is the one going forward or if there will be a different permit that makes some changes to the proposal. The committee will be continuing to monitor this development and pushing for a more thoughtful design for that corner. Development map link: https://dmap.calgary.ca/?p=DP2025-06579
