December Planning Meeting

Here are the items of discussion covered at the Inner City Planning and Heritage Committee meeting on Tuesday, December 2nd from 7:00PM to 8:30PM in the Board Room at the ICA Community Hall.

Details:


  1. DP2024-04661 (Chinese Market Gardens at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary)

    As part of the City's Bend in the Bow open space plan an interpretive flower and grass garden representing the Chinese market gardeners near the Colonel Walker House is being planned. This is the development permit for the garden and accessory structures (greenhouse, pathways, landscaping). The committee was generally supportive and wanted more details about this project.

  2. DP2025-04713 (1511 8th Avenue SE) This application is for a 3 row houses with an additional back unit residences (5 secondary suites overall) plus a garage. This is a re-submission of this project with amendments - the committee was unsure about what the changes were and are reaching out for details.

  3. DP2025-06579 (1340 9th Avenue SE) This application is for the Carson Block and Blyth Hall, current home of the Dirty Duck and the Blue Store. This application will demolish Blyth Hall and preserve the Carson Block while erecting a 6 story apartment complex around the Carson Block. The committee discussed some objections to the presented design. Will compile a response putting concerns together.

  4. DP2025-06069 (1614 16A Street SE) This application is for a new semi-detached dwelling with a secondary (basement) suite and new garage. The committee discussed design, parking, and flood plain requirements of the proposed development.

  5. DP2025-04713 (1511 8 Avenue SE) This application is for a new multi-unit building mid-block that includes 5 residential units and 5 accessory suites. This is an ongoing application being updated that has been discussed previously The committee continues to object to the mid-block density and shares concerns of the neighbours of this project about suitability.

  6. Correspondence

    Several correspondences were discussed by the committee including neighbour feedback on projects and follow-up from a developer looking for contact information



The next meeting of the Inner City Planning and Heritage Committee will be: January 6th, 2026 at 7:00PM in the Board Room at the ICA Community Hall.
