Seniors Corner

We would like to thank Dean, our next-door neighbour and owner of The Wildernest Dream Café, for taking the liberty of painting our fence as well as his. We truly appreciate this act of goodwill and a fine neighbourly deed. We have members who enjoy receiving parcels at Christmas and Birthdays from Santa's Secret Service. We would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to all the dedicated and hardworking volunteers at Santa's Secret Service. Your volunteerism is much appreciated. Our Bake sale in May was a success, due mainly to Wendy's mother, Lovie, who provided the vast majority of baked contributions. Thank you, Lovie. We shall be having another Bake sale at SunFest on August 1. We appreciate any baking contributions that we can get for this sale to help our club. Our June trip was to Banff Springs Hotel for buffet lunch. This trip is always a favourite with our members. We are selling tickets for the Sylvan Lake trip on August 13. Approximately 40 members will enjoy a boat ride on the lake while eating lunch. Tickets are $55 each. May 30th was the grand opening of the Nellie Breen Park in Inglewood. This park was named after the late Nellie Breen, whose daughter, Betty Hamilton, is an active member of Silver Threads. We all appreciate Betty's sense of humour and spunk. The Dance class, led by Keitha, performed at our May Potluck luncheon as that month's entertainment. Thank you, dancers. Rose-Marie Morin sang and we applaud Rae McConnell's piano playing. The last class of Jazzercise for the summer was on Friday, June 12. Classes will resume in the autumn, at a date yet to be determined. The VON Foot Clinic has been cancelled. This service proved to be too expensive for the club to subsidize. We are looking for alternatives for our members. Our Wii Bowling champ is Richard Bollman, with a score of 221. Lloyd Bettcher and Don, both with a score of 199, are not far behind Richard. Congratulations to Lloyd and Shirley Bettcher, who recently celebrated their 58th anniversary. Our best wishes also to Rose DelMistro and Isabel Dahl who recently celebrated their birthdays. They are in their mid-90s and are active, respected and admired members of our club.
