SPOLUMBOS – a Great Neighbour
By: Jackie Hamilton
Spolumbos has long been a committed community supporter in Inglewood and the very best kind of neighbour. They never say no when it comes to backing a community event. Perhaps that's because of the importance of family values to Tom Spoletini, Mike Palumbo and Tony Spoletini. They treat Inglewood residents and organizations like an extended family.
They have surrounded themselves with great staff, including Michael Solobay, Tony's right-hand man running the Deli. Staff totals around 40 people, all committed to making Spolumbos the best it can be.
For those of you who don't know the story, Spolumbos was started by three first-generation Italian Canadian childhood friends who helped their families make home-made Italian food as they were growing up. All three had a career in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders.
Life after football naturally transitioned into the food business and they began making sausages which they sold to other restaurants in the Calgary area. Due to demand, they opened a small 10-seat restaurant in Inglewood which morphed into the present 100-seat Italian Deli, where you can seldom find a seat at lunchtime. That, and their large catering business, has made for an extremely successful business.
We recently gave all the volunteers who deliver and work on the newsletter a gift card from Spolumbos to show that we appreciate everything they do for us - both Spolumbos and the volunteers. (Thanks Michael) It's a relationship that we hope continues for many years.
